About
I'm Lluis Garcia Torcal, a musician, 3D generalist and independent researcher based in Catalonia. In Second Life I'm Lluis Indigo.
Music
I started playing guitar when I was seven and I've performed in public since I was fourteen. I learned largely by ear, and I've also studied music theory. Since 2017 I've put much more of my energy into producing and recording my own music, and I perform it live in Second Life and on other online channels: electric guitar, vocals, live looping and a lot of improvisation. As SYNTH1C I follow my other long-standing interest, electronic music.
I create immersive sonic worlds. You can listen on the Music page.
3D
I've been drawn to computer graphics since I was a kid. I started with the standard tools (3ds Max, Maya, Cinema 4D), and around 2007 I moved to Blender, which let me create without spending a euro and introduced me to a generous community. That same year I joined Second Life, a place where people could actually walk into what I built. For years I made assets and scripts for Second Life and OpenSim, working within tight limits (at the time every mesh was capped at 1024 vertices). From 2013 I also built game assets for engines like Unreal and Unity. I'm still creating for Second Life: my Marketplace store (opens in a new tab) has my newer work, and the 3D page shows more.
Research
Lately much of my attention goes to research. By experiment, on the squares of the Fibonacci spiral, I found a formula that returns the Fibonacci squares at the Lucas numbers, and whose remainders form a palindrome of Pythagorean consonances: unison, octave, fifth and fourth. I call it the Pentametric Cycle. I work without an institution, so this site is also where I keep my notes, ideas and unfinished thoughts, dated, in the Notebook. My papers and code are on Zenodo (opens in a new tab) and GitHub (opens in a new tab); see the Research page for the rest.
Whatever the medium, I keep coming back to intervals: the relations between things, whether they are notes, shapes or numbers.
In the press
Others have written about my work; you can find what I know of on the Press page.
About this site
This site was built with the help of an AI assistant (Claude, by Anthropic), and this page was drafted with it and corrected by me. The music, the 3D work and the mathematics are my own.
